The Anchor

Tonight we went to a restaurant called The Anchor Bankside Bar & Restaurant; it is located on the original site of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre. We heard about the Anchor from a couple of different tour guides yesterday, first on the river cruise then on a hop-on, hop-off tour bus. When we showed up we were a little skeptical after looking at the menus (yes, plural, I’ll explain) posted on the outside. This restaurant is definitely different from any restaurant we’ve been to in America. There are different areas, one is a Fish & Chips area, another is just the bar, upstairs appeared to be more fine dining, and then they even had a Café. None of the menus for the different areas sounded too good (although we do wish now we would have tried the fish & chip) and things were a little pricey as well. Despite all this we headed in and found a more casual area that wasn’t really advertised on the outside that had a menu more to our liking. We just split a platter of all sorts of different appetizers, it was good, filled us both up and was provided a night we won’t soon forget.
