Really...the Ocean?

So last night we decided we should take a day trip to somewhere in France….not sure where, just…somewhere. It is really cool and we feel so blessed to have the opportunity to do all of this, especially when we can do something as unique as what we did today. We decided to go to Trouville and Deauville, France with the help and advice of our dear Cecilia. Trouville and Deauville are two towns on the coast of France in Normandy that are located adjacent to each other, separated only by the port and the train station. While the two towns might seem somewhat similar based on location they are very different. Trouville is less expensive and more family oriented, it’s not as clean as Deauville but has much more going on at the beach: soccer, volleyball, bochi ball, kite-flying. Deauville is a very pristine, almost fantasy-type; it literally looks like it could be a section of a Disney World park and even has a little, golf cart driven type train to take you around the city called La Petit Train de Deauville. Deauville has cafes and patisseries while Trouville has crepe and gauffre (waffle) stands. Both towns are pretty cool in their own right, both boasting the main reason we visited the area: a beach and the ocean. I was expecting to get to the ocean eventually on this trip, but certainly wasn’t expecting it as soon as this. Today was a picture perfect day, it was about 70°, and we spent the majority of our time in Trouville and Deauville on or around the beach. And…I even got sun-burnt…really bad…just my face…but pretty bad, really. I’ll be okay.

Once we got back to Paris we quickly got ready and headed to the Latin Quarter area for dinner. We ate at a placed called…Le Menhir, I think? I still basically had meat and potatoes, which I prefer, just a different version. The meat was some kind of honey-glazed pork rib and I think the potatoes were just potatoes-au-gratin but I could be wrong. At any rate, it was all good. And for dessert I had a crepe, which makes three for today…is that too many? Another great day, unfortunately the last full one in France. Well, until we come back through Nice in a week or so.
